Here are some steps you can take to protect your information:
- Freeze your credit. You will need to contact all three credit agencies. This will prevent people from taking out a loan in your name.
- Check your credit. Ask for a free credit report from one of the three credit agencies. Make sure there is no activity you did not approve.
- Ask for a free fraud alert on your files. A credit agency can do this for you. Creditors will then contact you before opening any new accounts.
- Use multifactor authentication (MFA). This means you use more than a password to login. MFA adds more security to your accounts.
- Be aware. Look for fake emails, calls or texts and never reply or share your information.
